Family Association Meets for 51st Reunion

     July 14, 2002

The Purbaugh-Poorbaugh 51st Family reunion was held on July 14, 2002 at the Mt. Olivet Church Picnic Grove.

Rev. Ralph Landis offered the prayer prior to the noon meal.

The Annual Meeting was called to order by President Melissa Ruefle.  A welcome was extended to all in attendance.

Secretary Pam Hetrick read the minutes from last years annual meeting.  The minutes were approved as read.

Sam Poorbaugh gave the treasurers report in absence of our Treasurer Barry Garlitz.  The treasurers report was approved as read.

Corresponding Secretary Sam Poorbaugh read some correspondence he received from the following relatives:  Louise Matthews -  Mt Savage, MD; Gen Johnson - York, NE; Jon & Ray Boyer - Azusa, CA; Helen Keskeys - Auburn, CA; Lynn Gearhart - Harlan, A?; Glee Gustafson - Wakefield, NE.

Sam also gave a report on the Annual Newsletter.  His goal was to have 0 returns but he soon realized this was unrealistic.  He is still trying to obtain correct addresses for relatives and has not been very successful.  He received 92 newsletter returns that will drop the mailing list to 450 next year.  He also stated that the post office was not very cooperative with his effort either.

Jim Poorbaugh and Charlene Poorbaugh then gave  the Book Report.  The book committee is still working trying to proofread the history book and make necessary corrections before the final draft can go to the printer.  Jim had all 10 chapters with him so that relatives could look at the rough drafts and make any corrections that they may notice.  Jim did have CD's available for sale at  $ 20 at the reunion and $ 23 if mailed to your home.  These CD's are not the final draft of the History Book, they are what he has thus far prior to corrections and proof reading.

Gifts were then presented  to the following relatives:

Oldest Female - Thema Poorbaugh Zeitler - 84
Oldest Male - Lee Poorbaugh -86
Most Recently Married - Dean and Susan Brick - 5 years
Youngest Child - Alexander Davidson Brick - 5 weeks
Longest Married - June and Warren Whitted - 60 years
( Dec 14, 1942 one week after Pearl Harbor )

It was noted that there were relatives present from the following states: California, Washington, Illinois, Iowa, Texas, North Carolina, Kansas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia.

David Poorbaugh hosted a tour of our forefathers cemetery.  Thanks were given to David and Charlene Poorbaugh, Sam and Darlene Poorbaugh and Barry Garlitz for taking care of the association cemetery.  A group photo was taken after the meeting.

The meeting was adjourned with no further business.
