Family Association Meets for 52nd Reunion July 13, 2003 The Purbaugh-Poorbaugh Family reunion was held on July 13, 2003 at the Mt. Olivet Church Picnic Grove. The noon meal began with a prayer offered by relative Ralph Landis and then lunch was served. The Vice Presidents assistant, his wife Charlene Poorbaugh, called the annual meeting to order in absence of our President. A warm welcome was extended to all. Charlene explained that Melissa was studying for her law bar exam and could not attend this years reunion. The secretary's report was read and minutes approved from the previous years reunion. Barry Garlitz then gave the financial report. The report was approved as presented. The corresponding secretary Sam Poorbaugh then gave the updates on the annual letter. There were 380 letters mailed out to family, he received 35 returned letters. He received 6 letters from correspondence and received some letters with additions and or corrections to the mailing list. He reported that the association had received $ 75.00 in donations from correspondence. He is concerned with the mailing list in regards to a lack of new addresses. He requested if anyone had any address changes to please give them to him. Next item of business was regarding the "Cemetery" plot of our ancestors that the association owns on the Emerick homestead. Larry Emerick's daughter recently got married and has built a home very near our forefather's gravesite. She has apparently expressed an interest in keeping the cemetery plot mowed and taken care of. The association feels that the Executive Board should meet with her to iron out the future of the 17 x 34 plot of ground that we own. The History Book Report was then given by Charlene and Jim Poorbaugh. Charlene announced that she has received the disc and the paper copies of all chapters. The next step is that the book needs reformatted, there are a lot of errors in the print that need corrected before the book can go the printer. We cannot print the book from the disc. The Board will meet to discuss this further. Charlene then explained the original springhouse of Philipps is in good shape and hopefully we can tour this at next years reunion. Pam Hetrick then talked of the "Family Tree" that is displayed yearly. She encouraged everyone to look at the tree and she will provide leaves so that you can add your leaf to the tree. Sam Poorbaugh then gave a program on the "Old One Room School House" that is located in the Berlin/Shanksville area. He gave the history of the school house and how it came to be placed and all the donations and work that has inspired many to visit the site. He encouraged everyone to visit this landmark. Pam encouraged the young and old generations to please get involved with the association. Anyone is welcome to help and be an officer. A special thank you to those who helped clean up the family cemetery. Gifts were then presented to the following:
